South Korean media: Export volume of India-made iPhones to the US reached 3 million in April, surging by 76%.
South Korean media: In April, India-produced iPhone exports to the US surged by more than 76%, over three times that of China!
On May 29th, South Korean media "Everyday Economy" reported that according to data, in April, the number of India-produced iPhones exported to the US was more than three times that of China.
According to market research firm Canalys, last month, 3 million India-produced iPhones were shipped to the US. This represents an increase of 76% compared to the same period last year.
In contrast, the number of iPhones exported from China to the US decreased by 76%, amounting to only 900,000 units.
Earlier this year, the proportion of India-produced iPhones exported to the US was about half that of China. In January and February, China exported 4.5 million and 3.5 million iPhones respectively, while India exported 2.4 million and 1.7 million units respectively.
However, in March, India's iPhone exports reached 4.4 million units, surpassing China's 4.3 million units, and the gap widened significantly in April.
The Trump administration decided on May 11th to exempt products like iPhones from retaliatory tariffs, but iPhones made in China still face a 30% tariff, which is higher than the 10% rate for iPhones made in India.
Market research firm Omdia stated that although India’s iPhone exports to the US surged in March and April, future growth is expected to slow down.
Omdia said, "India's production capacity is unlikely to grow rapidly enough to meet the entire demand of the US. The US demands approximately 20 million iPhones per quarter, and India will not reach this production level until 2026."
This figure is based on completed assembly of iPhones, while most of the core components of iPhones are still assembled in China.
However, Apple's expansion of production in India does not align with the tariff goals of the Trump administration.
President Trump recently warned that "iPhones sold in the US must be produced in the US, not in India or other countries," and threatened to impose an additional 25% tariff on imported iPhones.
