Acting Prime Minister of Thailand will meet with the Prime Minister of Cambodia in Kuala Lumpur on Monday

The Thai government said on Sunday that Acting Prime Minister Prawit will lead a delegation to Kuala Lumpur on Monday to hold talks on the border dispute with Cambodia. The statement said that Malaysia, the current chair of ASEAN, has informed the Thai side that Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia will attend the meeting.

The Prime Minister's Office of Thailand stated that the talks will be chaired by Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar, the current chair of ASEAN, and "Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia will personally attend the talks."

Malaysian Foreign Minister Muhammad said on Sunday that Thailand and Cambodia have agreed for Malaysia to act as a mediator in the border conflict between the two countries. Previously, both Thai and Cambodian sides claimed that the other side had launched further shelling in the disputed area.

Muhammad told Bernama that Prime Minister Hun Manet of Cambodia and Acting Prime Minister Prawit of Thailand are expected to visit Malaysia on Monday evening.

Muhammad said, "They have full confidence in Malaysia and invited me to act as a mediator." The Malaysian foreign minister continued that he has held talks with the foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand, and they all agree that no other country should get involved in this matter.

Previously, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar proposed a ceasefire on Friday, and US President Trump also announced on Saturday that the leaders of Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to cooperate on the issue of ceasefire.

US Secretary of State Rubio called separately with the foreign ministers of Cambodia and Thailand on Sunday, urging them to immediately ease the tensions and stating that the US is ready to assist in the negotiations.

In a statement regarding Rubio's calls with the foreign ministers of Thailand and Cambodia, the US Department of State said: "The United States is prepared to promote future negotiations to ensure peace and stability between Thailand and Cambodia."

Four days after the worst fighting between the two Southeast Asian neighbors in over a decade, more than 30 people have died, including 13 Thai civilians and 8 Cambodian civilians. Authorities stated that over 200,000 people have fled the border areas of the two countries.
