AP: Trump wants to abandon two NASA missions!
No longer monitoring carbon dioxide on Earth.
August 7, AP report.
NASA will close the matter according to the president's schedule and its budget priorities.
President Donald Trump plans to terminate two NASA missions that monitor greenhouse gas emissions.
This refers to the OCO-2 and OCO-3 missions launched in 2014 and 2019, respectively.
The OCO-2 satellite's mission is to study how carbon dioxide moves on Earth and how it changes over time. Figure 2
The OCO-3 Orbiting Carbon Observatory is located on the International Space Station and also monitors carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere.
According to the agency's data, President Trump's 2026 budget request does not include funding allocations for these projects.
These projects will be "closed according to the president's schedule and its budget priorities."
In early May, the U.S. government proposed cutting NASA activities by nearly a quarter in the 2026 fiscal year. The government hopes Congress will allocate $1.88 billion for the agency's budget next year. In the 2025 fiscal year, this allocation was $2.48 billion.
Trump once posted online: "The concept of global warming is a scam, a lie created by the Chinese, to make American industry lose competitiveness."
