The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill restricting academic and scientific cooperation between American universities and China. The bill passed with a vote of 266 to 153, with all opposition votes coming from the Democratic Party. The bill stipulates that if American universities cooperate with certain Chinese universities, particularly those associated with top-tier Chinese research institutions, they will be ineligible for funding from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
In addition, Congress also heard plans from the Department of Agriculture to restrict Chinese ownership of agricultural land in the United States.
