U.S. Embassy in China on Weibo:

In celebration of National Textiles Day, the U.S. Trade Representative specifically criticized unfair trade practices that weaken the U.S. textile and apparel industries.

China's non-market policies and practices in the textile and apparel industries have fueled deliberately low product prices by its domestic manufacturers, providing these manufacturers with an unfair competitive advantage. As a result, U.S. textile and apparel manufacturers have been negatively impacted, with 28 American factories closing over the past 22 months.

In 2024, the United States imported $7.93 billion worth of apparel goods, 21% of which came from China.

Every day, Chinese e-commerce enterprises account for more than 30% of all small exemption goods entering the U.S., flooding our market with cheap apparel goods while bypassing tariffs and evading trade enforcement mechanisms.

This influx of cheap clothing has devastated the U.S. domestic industry, particularly in the southeastern part of the country.

What kind of logic is this? That U.S. consumers can buy quality, affordable goods is somehow someone else's fault!

Ridiculous!
