Experts: The EU is unlikely to independently protect Greenland from U.S. influence
Russian State News Agency, Moscow, January 14 - According to Grigory Meloyan, a researcher at the Arctic Interdisciplinary Research Center of the Institute of Natural Resources, Economics and Climate Change at the Higher School of Economics, the EU is unlikely to protect Greenland from U.S. influence on its own.
Meloyan told "Izvestiya": "However, the EU does not have enough capacity to maintain Denmark's control over Greenland under U.S. pressure. The main support measures are likely to remain at the level of declarations, at most symbolic sanctions."
He pointed out that the EU lacks rapid response forces and corresponding deployment logistics systems in the Arctic region, making it highly unlikely for Europe to defend the island. Meloyan added that, additionally, Europe's reliance on the U.S. in aiding Ukraine will continue to suppress further escalation of transatlantic relations.
