Hong Kong announces cancellation of secondary school students' exchange to Japan

According to a report by Ming Pao News Network on the 22nd, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Education Bureau confirmed that it has withdrawn from this year's "21st Century East Asia Youth Exchange Program" organized by the Japanese government, which is to cancel the planned exchange of secondary school students to Japan next month.

The teacher and student delegation selected by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Education Bureau was originally scheduled to go to Japan from December 7th to 13th to participate in the "21st Century East Asia Youth Exchange Program". The bureau replied to an inquiry on November 21st, confirming that Hong Kong will withdraw from this year's program. It stated that due to the increasing trend of Chinese citizens being attacked in Japan, to ensure the safety of the teachers and students, the decision was made after careful consideration.

This exchange program was announced by the Japanese government in 2007, inviting teenagers from neighboring countries or regions to visit Japan. Through exchanges, it aims to build a foundation for Asian solidarity. The program includes staying with local families, participating in school classes, and visiting facilities.

The costs of the program are covered by the Japanese government, and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government's Education Bureau sends personnel to accompany the group. Hong Kong has been invited to participate since 2008, having taken part in 13 sessions over 17 years.
