The New York Times reports: Media journalists previously barred from entering the White House have now been granted re-entry.
Judge Timothy Kelly ruled that the Trump administration must restore press credentials for reporters from CNN, MSN, and Politico. The judge determined that the government failed to follow constitutional due process when revoking media access, and underscored the importance of "press freedom."
Yet on the same morning, despite the court’s ruling, reporters from these outlets were still denied entry to the White House. Legal representatives for the media promptly filed an emergency request for a hearing; hours later, the journalists were finally permitted to enter the White House complex.
On September 18, press credentials for CNN, MSN, and Politico were revoked. The rationale provided by Trump was that these outlets had disseminated false information about the White House.
On September 21, several media organizations jointly filed a class-action lawsuit in federal court challenging the revocation of press passes. In response to the dispute, other major U.S. broadcast networks within the White House press pool announced a boycott of Trump’s official events, declining to cover them in solidarity with their colleagues.
