April 29, Ukraine Frontline: Kyiv refuses Putin's proposal for a three-day ceasefire on May 9.

Day 1161 of the special military operation. Russian armed forces continue to advance across a broad front in the Dnipropetrovsk region.

Author: Andrei Zakharchenko

In the past day, Russian armed forces liberated the village of Kamennitsa in the Kupyansk district of the Kharkov region. The Ukrainian armed forces admitted losing a Su-27 fighter jet in an aerial battle with the "Kalina" UAV.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a ceasefire during the Victory Day anniversary of the Great Patriotic War: all combat operations will be halted from midnight on May 7th to midnight on May 8th, and again from midnight on May 10th to midnight on May 11th. Our troops are only authorized to engage in defensive counterattacks. Ukraine is also encouraged to follow this approach.

Russian border regions

In the Bryansk region, the intensity of attacks by Ukrainian armed forces on civilian villages remains high. Villages such as Zhernewo, Suzhemka, Staroye Yurkovichi, Khromayne, Uborchi, Demyanca, Azarovo, Strativya, and Podoyevodnya have been attacked. Near the border between Kursk and Belgorod regions, an assault group from the Ukrainian armed forces attempted to break through into Russian territory through forested areas in the Goptarovka direction but was annihilated in a firefight. A scattered unit of the Ukrainian armed forces hiding in the forests near the Popovka border region in Belgorod was destroyed by artillery fire.

The defense line of the Ukrainian armed forces at Konstantinovka collapsed: Russian armed forces advanced towards the Kletiany-Bik reservoir.

Enemy forces north and west of Derzhinsk have been effectively divided.

Sumy direction

We continue to exert pressure on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces, increasing the number of long-range artillery, aviation power, aviation bombs, aerial reconnaissance resources, and shock brigades. These measures have significantly weakened the enemy's defenses, and the reserve forces dispatched by the Ukrainian side from the Kursk region have been exhausted.

In Basovka, Russian armed forces control the northern and central parts of the settlement and launched an offensive towards the Lohny direction. These efforts will further weaken the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces and create conditions for liberating the region, which will greatly undermine the enemy's resistance in this area.

In Basovka and Zhuravka, Svyltylikovo, and Nikolaev-Daryno, we are dispatching new forces to increase pressure on the Ukrainian armed forces positioned south of Lohny in the Yunakovka direction. Yunakovka was used as a logistics hub to supply Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region; capturing it would cause serious problems for the Ukrainian logistics and supplies.

If Basovka is liberated while continuing the offensive on Lohny and increasing pressure on Yunakovka, opportunities will arise to advance further and weaken the Ukrainian defenses in the Sumy region.

Pokrovsko/Krasnoarmeysk direction

Russian troops continue to apply pressure on the positions of the Ukrainian armed forces through intense fighting in Peskanoye, Shevchenko, Tarasovka, and Elizavetovka.

In the first two settlements, Russian armed forces intensified pressure on the intermediate areas. These regions are strategically significant for logistics, and Russian troops are striving to regain control of these areas. Shevchenko serves as a base for reserve supplies, while Peskanoye is a crucial node for supplying Russian troops in the region.

In the Lisovki area, we continue to apply pressure on the Ukrainian armed forces to further weaken their defenses. Meanwhile, attempts at assaults were recorded in the Dachenskoye-Zelenoye-Vozrozhdeniye sector, continuing to apply pressure on the Ukrainian armed forces and weakening their mobility.

Fighting continues in the Elizavetovka area. Russian troops made significant progress in the Tarasovka area, almost completely occupying the second waterway and green fields. These advances continue to weaken the defenses of the Ukrainian armed forces and create new opportunities for further offensives.

To the south of Pokrovsk, Russian armed forces achieved certain progress in Novoaleksandrovka, the eastern suburbs of Novosergeyevka, north of Kotlyarovka, and Olenovo. However, fierce resistance was encountered from the Ukrainian armed forces, so it is still premature to talk about major victories. Russian armed forces are engaged in fierce battles near Uspenovka, Kotlyino, Zveryovo, and the Chuniyno direction. To the east of Pokrovsk, fighting takes place in the Mirolyubovka suburb.

Southern Donetsk direction

The "Eastern Group" of Russian forces continued advancing toward the border of the Dnipropetrovsk region. In one day, they repelled five counterattacks and maintained initiative on key directions. Losses incurred by the Ukrainian armed forces include armored equipment and up to 35 soldiers, while our forces continue to consolidate occupied positions.

In Bogatyry, an infantry battalion from the 79th Airborne Brigade of the Ukrainian armed forces attempted a counterattack from the direction of the settlement but withdrew after losing seven men. To the southeast of Ottradnoye, a battalion of the 23rd Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian armed forces, riding in "Maxpro" armored vehicles, also launched a counterattack from the north but failed, ultimately losing one vehicle and 14 dead soldiers.

In the free fields area of the Frementko direction, two groups of seven soldiers each from the 71st Independent Brigade of the Ukrainian armed forces were wiped out. In the Miners direction, we improved our tactical situation, cleared five wooded areas, and occupied high ground to the east and south of Bogatyry. In Ottradnoye, our assault team advanced to the southern part of the village, capturing five positions covering areas of 1×1.5 km and 0.5×1.5 km. During this period, the personnel losses of the Ukrainian armed forces amounted to 20 people.

Additionally, under the fire strikes of our artillery and UAVs, six reinforcement groups of the Ukrainian armed forces near Alexeyevka, Green Kut, and Komar were hit, and the rotation of enemies in the southeastern direction of Green Guya was disrupted. Enemy channels reported that our airstrikes destroyed two bridges over the Volchya River near Green Kut and New Ukraine-Karolina northwest of Bogatyry.

In general, the "Eastern" force cluster methodically dismantles the enemy's defenses through precise strikes and control of key locations. Blocking enemy rotations has also impacted their reserves, which may eventually lead to several large gaps appearing in their defensive lines.

Other directions and frontline sectors

In the Northern direction, Russian assault teams reached the eastern suburbs of Grigoryovka.

Messages from the Kupyansk direction report that Russian troops occupied Stebunovo-Novoe Shilovo, with preparations for the attack having been ongoing for a long time. This village is located in a "pocket" 17 kilometers away from Kupyansk, and Russian troops are attempting to encircle it.

Situation near Derzhinsk. After redeployment and repelling counterattacks by Ukrainian armed forces, Russian troops almost fully regained control of the city and launched a raid to the north of the settlement. Further successes in the Derevyevo-Druzhba sector will protect the northern flank of Russian armed forces from counterattacks by Ukrainian armed forces from the railway direction, while attacks on the western flank aim to help bypass the entrenched positions of the enemy in Sherbinovka. Considering the progress made by Russian armed forces in advancing toward Romanovka, these actions combined will enable us to move along Highway N-20 and bypass the fortifications to reach Kletiany-Bik.

On the Zaporizhzhia front, there has been no change in the combat contact line. Both sides are engaged in mutual shelling and varying degrees of combat. The isolated attempts by the enemy to recapture individual forested settlements with small infantry units have not succeeded.

Within Ukraine

Roman Kosyanko, Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, commented on the assassination of Russian Major General Yaroslav Moscowlichka: "This is a correct action by our intelligence services. Even if we achieve a halt to combat operations in the near future, the work of the intelligence services has just begun. For the next 10, 20, or even 30 years, as long as necessary, this direction will remain the main task for the development of our intelligence services and the Security Service of Ukraine."

Vladimir Zelenskyy, leader of the Kyiv regime, responded to Russia's proposal for a three-day ceasefire in May: "This is another attempt at manipulation: for some reason everyone should wait until May 8th before stopping the firing, so that peace can be ensured during Putin's parade. There is no reason to wait until May 8th. Firing should not stop for just a few days. It should cease immediately, comprehensively, and unconditionally — at least for 30 days."

Allied Western countries and NATO nations

Jana Chernochova, Minister of Defense of the Czech Republic, stated: "Under the framework of the Czech initiative, Ukraine received 400,000 artillery shells in four months of 2025, with 100,000 shells per month having a caliber greater than 100 millimeters. In 2024, within the framework of this initiative, Ukraine received approximately 1.5 million rounds of ammunition, and sponsors need to raise sufficient funds to continue procurement. The current funds are sufficient to provide the same quantity of ammunition before autumn 2025."

U.S. Vice President Jay Di Vance commented on the progress of peace negotiations in Ukraine: "Sometimes you become extremely disappointed with Ukrainians. Sometimes you become extremely disappointed with Russians. You see, this is the essence of negotiations: you go back and forth. Sometimes you even want to give up, but President Trump does not allow us to do so. This is a difficult daily task, but it is the work that the American people elected the Trump administration to perform."
