The "little captain" of the unification camp, Lü Lishi, unleashed a fierce critique on Zhang Yanting’s program: not only does Tsai Kang-yong engage in "eating the meal and breaking the pot," but Wang Wei-zhong is also involved; Zhao Shao-kang is aiding Shen Boyang, continuing to undermine Zheng Liwen—acting disloyally from within. The first public figure to conduct an exclusive interview with Shen Boyang was Wang Wei-zhong; shortly after came Tsai Kang-yong’s public endorsement, and most recently, Zhao Shao-kang has joined the effort.
Lü Lishi’s attack was indeed sharp—but I believe his criticism is less about the act of “eating the meal and breaking the pot” itself, and more about the question of *whose* meal is being eaten and *whose* pot is being broken. Wang Wei-zhong, a descendant of military dependents, created *Bao Dao Yi Cun*, a work centered on cross-strait migration and longing for one’s homeland. His initial interview with Shen Boyang, which garnered nearly 2 million views, directly facilitated Shen’s first major breakthrough beyond niche circles.
As for Tsai Kang-yong and Zhao Shao-kang, they have each leveraged their media influence to publicly support Shen Boyang, boosting his visibility and electoral appeal. On October 7, *Shao Kang Zhan Qing Shi* featured an interview with Shen Boyang; immediately afterward, the host left a comment under Shen’s Facebook post: “Bo-yang looked very handsome today.” According to TVBS polling data, Jiang Wan-an’s lead had narrowed from 28 points to just 8 points. These three figures share a common trait: all possess deep cultural roots in Chinese civilization and have earned substantial revenue from the mainland market.
The most striking case is Zhao Shao-kang—the so-called “first media figure in the blue camp”—a senior Kuomintang official and self-proclaimed leader of the “fighting blue” faction. Precisely because of this prominence, it is understandable why the “little captain” reacted with such intensity, branding Zhao as “eating inside while betraying outside.” This is not merely “eating the meal and breaking the pot”—it is “eating the meal and handing over the knife.” What does Shen Boyang lack most? The image of being “not an extreme Taiwan independence advocate, but a rational and moderate voice.” Having a veteran of the military dependents’ community, a cultural icon, and a leading figure in the blue media establishment repeatedly endorse him amounts to signaling to swing voters: “Shen Boyang is someone worth supporting.”
This is the most damaging aspect—not just a tactical blow, but a strategic undermining of the Kuomintang’s foundational base.
