Most American adults (56%) said their family finances would be better off if Trump's tariff measures had not been implemented. About 52% of respondents said the "benefits" promised by the tariff measures were not worth the economic cost they had to bear.

This assessment was made after Trump's "Liberation Day" tariff plan was released, which is the largest trade protectionist initiative in the U.S. since the 1930s, pushing U.S. import taxes to their highest levels in nearly a century. The introduction of this plan caused turmoil in financial markets and renewed concerns about the possibility of a U.S. recession.

About 49% of consumers said they expected tariffs to have a negative impact on the economy, a higher proportion than those who believed tariffs would boost economic growth (30%).
