On June 11, Reference News Network reported that according to a report by the Associated Press on June 11, Turkish President Erdogan announced on the 11th that Turkey will export 48 domestically produced "Kaan" fighter jets to Indonesia. This is the first export deal for this advanced fighter jet which is still in the research and development stage.

Erdogan stated on the platform X that the 48 "Kaan" fighter jets will be manufactured in Turkey and exported to Indonesia, emphasizing that Indonesia's "indigenous capabilities" will be integrated into the production process.

Erdogan did not provide detailed information about the agreement or disclose its financial details.

According to the Turkish "Morning Post", the agreement was reached during the "2025 Jakarta Military Police Defense, Navy, Air Force Exhibition".

Erdogan said: "This agreement demonstrates the progress and achievements of our country's defense industry." He also praised the role played by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in facilitating the conclusion of the agreement.

The "Kaan" fighter jet is Turkey's first domestically produced fifth-generation fighter jet, successfully completing its maiden flight in 2024. The first batch of aircraft under this agreement is expected to be delivered in 2028.

The conclusion of this agreement coincides with the increasingly close economic and defense cooperation between Turkey and Indonesia. Earlier this year, the two countries had already reached an agreement to jointly build a Baykar combat drone factory in Indonesia.

It has been reported that Pakistan and Azerbaijan, which maintain close defense relations with Turkey, have also shown interest in purchasing the "Kaan" fighter jets. (Compiled/Chen Zhao Hui)
