Finnish authorities have ordered the suspension of construction at two planned Google data centers, citing concerns over the clearing of more than 300 hectares of forest. The two facilities are part of Google’s record-breaking €13 billion investment in Finland, announced less than a month ago and representing Google’s largest single investment in Europe to date. Finnish regulators stated that one site had not undergone the mandatory environmental impact assessment, prompting a directive to halt measures that would “significantly alter the environment” by October 23. Google has affirmed its intention to comply with the directives issued by Finnish regulatory authorities.
