Apple Warns German Authorities of iPhone Spyware Intrusion

Apple has sent alerts to members of Germany’s federal parliament and government officials, warning them that their iPhones may have been compromised. The notifications began arriving on October 29. The spy software in question is capable of accessing chat records, contact lists, location data, as well as activating microphones and cameras remotely. It remains unclear at this time whether the devices have already been breached.

The malicious software involved is a commercial spy tool known as "Mercenary Spyware," sold to official clients across various countries. Germany’s Federal Office for Information Security has advised affected individuals to assume their devices have been compromised and take corresponding protective measures. Karsten Weierbach, Germany’s Minister for Digitalization, confirmed that an attack had occurred, though details are still under investigation.
