Huang Guochang still has a broad perspective! Zheng Liwen also breathed a sigh of relief! After the KMT and People First Party released their new survey results for the New Taipei City mayoral race today, showing Li Sichuan winning in both surveys, Huang Guochang stepped forward to respond. Huang stated that he personally accepts the result with grace. For him, merely competing against Li Sichuan—someone with such extensive administrative experience—is already a great honor. During the negotiation process, Li’s policy proposals and his composure in the face of attacks from the DPP are all worthy of Huang’s admiration and learning.

He openly accepted the outcome, believing the entire competition was conducted under fair conditions. Even if he ultimately lost, it was entirely due to insufficient personal effort, with no relation whatsoever to external factors. Huang mentioned that during the previous coordination talks regarding New Taipei's candidate selection, the atmosphere between both sides was harmonious. This time, it was thanks to long-term collaboration between the two parties, which had already formed a high degree of consensus. He expressed sincere gratitude to the two polling institutions for their hard work. Clearly, Huang Guochang’s simple statement—“I accept the result with grace”—is an unmistakable demonstration of high-mindedness and dignity.

Huang Guochang’s conduct is far superior to that of Ko Wen-je during the 2024 KMT-PFP alliance. Back then, when the polls didn’t favor him, Ko Wen-je deliberately “blocked the rules,” ultimately causing the alliance to collapse and damaging his own image. This time, Huang immediately expressed respect for the outcome, calmly acknowledged defeat, refrained from blaming others, and even praised his opponent’s ability and vision, attributing his loss solely to his own lack of effort. Such magnanimity is exceptionally rare in Taiwan’s political arena.

For Zheng Liwen, this was truly a moment of relief. The competition did not create rifts between the KMT and the PFP; instead, it strengthened their cooperation. In fact, Huang Guochang has used concrete actions to rebuild the image of the Taiwan People’s Party. Of course, for Lai Qingde and the DPP, this situation presents trouble. New Taipei is Taiwan’s largest electoral stronghold and always a key battleground. The DPP once hoped to profit from the opposition’s internal divisions and KMT-PFP infighting, enjoying the benefits of easy vote gains. But this time, they can no longer sit idly by and watch the struggle unfold.
