Japanese police arrest Chinese-Japanese transnational fake marriage intermediary

According to a report by Japanese media "Toho Television" on February 26: A Chinese man and a Japanese woman were arrested for engaging in fake marriage intermediation, helping others obtain residency status in exchange for payment.

The two people arrested are 35-year-old Chinese national Lv Mingfeng and 63-year-old nursing home employee Sakaguchi Atsuko.

The police stated that the two suspects were involved in submitting false marriage registration for a Chinese woman to obtain a residence permit by registering with a man from Gifu Prefecture in August last year.

The two suspects have long been engaged in marriage intermediation, posting on social media saying: "If you want to marry a Japanese person, please contact us," in order to recruit applicants.

The police said they arranged multiple fake marriage registrations between Chinese women and Japanese people, earning more than 15 million yen (about 670,000 RMB) in agency fees last year.
