The MiG-21 fighter jets of the Indian Air Force have finally been fully retired. During their 62-year service in the Indian Air Force, out of 847 MiG-21s, 511 crashed, resulting in the deaths of 170 pilots and 40 civilians.

After the complete retirement of the MiG-21, the number of fighter jets in the Indian Air Force has further decreased, as neither the domestically produced LCA "Tejas" nor the planned imports of "Rafale" and Su-57E can fill the gap in the short term.
