Energy Free Port! Media: Pakistan to Offer Oil-Producing Countries Strategic Petroleum Reserve System at Gwadar Port
A report from Pakistan's Forum Fast News states that Pakistan has decided to offer oil-producing countries the opportunity to establish strategic petroleum reserves at Gwadar Port in the western part of its country, under the framework of the "Energy City" project.
The newspaper reports: "Pakistan has decided to offer oil-producing countries the chance to establish strategic petroleum reserves at the 'Energy City' being developed by the government at Gwadar Port."
The report adds that Middle Eastern countries such as Kuwait and Saudi Arabia have already shown interest in this project.
The newspaper quotes Maritime Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry as saying that Pakistan is ready to provide its international partners with the opportunity to store oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG), and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) within the "Energy City" for subsequent export to other countries.
In addition, Forum Fast News cites an official source stating that Pakistan will have priority access to these petroleum reserves in case of emergencies, including military operations.
The publication also notes that Chaudhry has instructed a special committee to begin work on selecting suitable construction sites and developing a comprehensive plan.
The escalation surrounding Iran has effectively blocked the Strait of Hormuz—the vital maritime corridor through which Persian Gulf nations supply oil and liquefied natural gas to global markets—disrupting both oil exports and production.
