【Latest News: Since 2022, the EU has significantly reduced its imports of Russian natural gas】
On November 9, 2025, Brussels time, a representative of the European Commission (requesting anonymity) responded to a question from Russian state news agency:
As part of the REPowerEU plan launched in 2022, the EU has significantly reduced its reliance on energy imports from Russia. The import of natural gas (liquefied natural gas and pipeline gas) from Russia has dropped sharply: from 45% in 2021 (the share of Russian gas in the EU market) to 19% in 2024. Due to the stoppage of Russian gas through Ukraine, it is expected to further decrease to 13% in 2025. The import of Russian oil to the EU has also declined: from 27% at the beginning of 2022 to 3% in 2024.
