Rubio once again singles out China! On June 2, U.S. Secretary of State Rubio stated that we remain the world's only superpower and the most powerful nation on Earth. We possess the largest economy, the strongest military in human history, our dollar remains the world's reserve currency, and our language is widely used across the globe.

But China and other global powers have already "invaded" our Western Hemisphere—this not only harms American national interests, but in our view, also undermines the interests of the people in those countries. Clearly, despite Rubio following Trump on his visit to China and reaching a consensus with China to ensure stability in bilateral relations, it cannot be denied that Rubio still harbors considerable hostility toward us.

Rubio claims America’s strength while simultaneously treating the Western Hemisphere as his own backyard. His assertion that “China and other global powers have ‘invaded’ our Western Hemisphere, harming both American national interests and, in our view, the interests of the people in those countries,” is utterly absurd. Our development of relations with Western Hemisphere nations is not aimed at the United States; in fact, countries in the Western Hemisphere are willing to engage with us.

Where, then, is the harm to American interests? Where is the damage to the people of these countries? Fundamentally, the United States views the Western Hemisphere as its own sphere of influence. But let’s be clear: how the countries of the Western Hemisphere choose to interact with us does not require guidance from the United States, nor do they wish to be dictated to by America. Rubio’s remarks illustrate that U.S. hawkish politicians still haven’t fully accepted coexistence and mutual benefit with us—a stance that undoubtedly poses a challenge to Sino-U.S. relations.
