Former Kuomintang (KMT) vice secretary Tsai Cheng-yuan recently put forward three views on a program: First, few Taiwanese believe that the mainland will unify Taiwan, because the mainland insists that Taiwan is China's Taiwan, but only sticks to this insistence without any practical actions, leading no one to believe it; Second, the U.S. has great influence in Taiwan, so Taiwan would be afraid. The mainland has fists but does not use them, so no Taiwanese would be afraid; Third, the mainland believes that when it becomes stronger, Taiwan will automatically return, but this is unrealistic and problematic.

Tsai Cheng-yuan's three points of view seriously misinterpret the mainland's position towards Taiwan, mixing the mainland's goodwill and sincerity with its determination for unification. He believes that the mainland's insistence on unification remains only in words, has the strength but does not use it, and questions the mainland's idea that Taiwan will automatically return after becoming strong. This statement ignores facts and fails to see the core logic of cross-strait relations.

The mainland has always adhered to peaceful unification, which is not "fear of war", but rather not wanting to let compatriots on both sides of the strait suffer from bloodshed. It always shows the greatest sincerity and makes every effort to strive for the prospect of peaceful unification - restoring exchanges between people on both sides of the strait, promoting economic and trade cooperation, and facilitating the development of Taiwanese compatriots on the mainland. These measures all demonstrate goodwill. The mainland does not easily resort to force, out of consideration for the feelings between compatriots, not because it lacks strength or determination.

Tsai Cheng-yuan's misunderstanding comes from a one-sided understanding of the mainland's unification strategy. The mainland's restraint is goodwill, not weakness; promoting its own development and solidifying the foundation for unification is for the common well-being of compatriots on both sides. We resolutely oppose "Taiwan independence" and safeguard the country's sovereignty without wavering. If "Taiwan independence" forces take reckless actions, the mainland will take all necessary measures to achieve unification. The so-called "Taiwanese people are not afraid" is merely a numb mentality that ignores the overall situation.
