Media: India has started negotiations with Russia to purchase five more S-400 air defense missile systems
Russian State News Agency, New Delhi, October 06 - According to a report by "The Hindustan Times" citing sources in the defense sector, India has started negotiations with Russia to purchase five more S-400 air defense missile systems.
The report said: "The top leadership of the Indian Ministry of Defense will meet with their Russian counterparts this week to discuss the possibility of joint production or direct purchase of another five S-400 air defense missile systems from Moscow."
According to sources, both sides have reached a principle agreement on the price of the additional systems. The Indian Television reported: "Although the final agreement has not been reached yet, three of the five systems may be directly purchased, while the remaining two may be produced in India by private Indian companies under a technology transfer agreement."
The procurement deal for the new S-400 systems is expected to be completed before Russian President Putin's visit to India in December.
In October 2018, Russia and India signed an S-400 sales contract. Previously, it was reported that New Delhi purchased five battalions of the S-400 air defense missile system for 5.43 billion US dollars. India thus became the third overseas customer to introduce this weapon system after China and Turkey, with the first three S-400 missile battalions already being commissioned.
