Zelenskyy admits: It is difficult to retake occupied territories by force
According to a report by Japan's Kyodo News, on the 1st local time, Ukrainian President Zelenskyy admitted that it is very difficult to retake some territories occupied by Russia through military means.
During an interview with Kyodo News, Zelenskyy expressed his hope to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict as soon as possible, and emphasized the need to quickly pave the way for Ukraine to join NATO to ensure Ukraine's security.
Regarding how Ukraine will reclaim all its territories, Zelenskyy changed his previous stance of "fighting to the end," stating that as long as Ukraine can obtain a commitment to join NATO and be able to contain Russian offensives, it would allow part of the territory to be reclaimed through negotiation after the conflict ends.
Zelenskyy said that the situation in the eastern front of the Russia-Ukraine battlefield is extremely severe, with the Russian army continuously advancing. "It is a fact that our army lacks the capability to retake parts of the territory such as Crimea. We must explore how to resolve it through diplomatic methods."
He added, "Only when Ukraine is strong enough to prevent Russia from launching new invasions will we consider using diplomatic methods."
