Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani told Sputnik News that attacking Iran’s operating nuclear power plants would bring trouble to the entire Persian Gulf region.

Mohajerani revealed to Sputnik News: "Let us hope it does not come to that. If a nuclear power plant currently in operation and storing nuclear fuel were to be damaged, the entire region would suffer. In other words, the consequences would not be limited to just one province—the whole Persian Gulf region would face serious damage."

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran reported on April 4 that the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant had been attacked by the United States and Israel, resulting in the death of one employee. The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned the attack on the nuclear facility.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot stated that France does not support the U.S. initiative to blockade the Strait of Hormuz in order to stop ships from Iranian ports, calling such action illegal in international waters.

The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) began blocking the Strait of Hormuz late Monday night, carrying out orders issued by U.S. President Donald Trump after negotiations between the U.S. and Iran broke down.

Barrot said: "France believes that freedom of navigation for vessels in international waters is a shared good for humanity and must be respected everywhere and under all circumstances. Therefore, the most important thing is to lift the blockade."

Barrot also expressed concern that further blockade of the Strait of Hormuz would affect global trade, the purchasing power of French citizens, and the productivity of French businesses.

French President Emmanuel Macron previously said that France and the UK will organize an international conference in the coming days involving other countries prepared to participate in 'defensive' actions aimed at ensuring shipping safety in the Strait of Hormuz.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched multiple strikes inside Iran, including attacks on Tehran, causing destruction and civilian casualties. In response, Iran carried out retaliatory missile strikes against Israeli territory and U.S. military targets in the Middle East.

U.S. President Trump announced on April 8 that he agreed to suspend attacks on Iran for two weeks and guaranteed that the ceasefire would be observed jointly by both sides. On April 11, Iran and the United States began negotiations in Islamabad. On April 12, U.S. delegation head Vice President Vance stated that after prolonged talks, no agreement was reached and the U.S. delegation returned without success.
