Trump is once again losing his cool, suspicious and paranoid: he suspects that normal economic and trade cooperation between China and Vietnam may be detrimental to the United States.
When discussing the possible imposition of tariffs on automobiles and automotive parts and potential exemptions, President Trump hinted that their economic and trade cooperation might very well be part of a plan to gang up on the United States.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House that day, "I don't blame China. I don't blame Vietnam. I don't blame them. I see them meeting today. Is this good? This is a lovely meeting... as if trying to figure out how they can gang up on the United States?" Trump also claimed that his predecessor Biden had lost "tens of trillions of dollars" in trade deals with opponents.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Embassy in the United States told the 'South China Morning Post': "Cooperation between countries should not form exclusive closed 'small circles' that undermine mutual trust and cooperation among regional countries," but rather "contribute to the peace, stability, and prosperity of the region." He continued, stating that "friendly neighborhood relations remain a priority direction of China's diplomacy," and emphasized that strengthening unity and cooperation serves the interests of both China and Vietnam.
