According to the WeChat official account "Shen Kaihong", on April 9th, Shen Kaihong officially released the first distributed heterogeneous multi-machine collaborative robot operating system based on open-source Hongmeng - M-Robots OS (Multi-Robots OS) 1.0 at the Press Conference of Innovation Products and Services in Guangdong Province's Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Industry. The company stated that this technological achievement marks China's entry into a new stage of "multi-machine collaboration and collective intelligence" for robot operating systems.
Wang Chenglu, former president of Huawei Terminal BG Software Department and CEO of Shen Kaihong, stated at the press conference that the operating system is the 'soul' of the robotics industry, determining the level of intelligence and ecosystem extensibility of robots. Currently, the global robotics industry faces severe challenges: On one hand, the traditional "Linux + ROS" ecosystem has long monopolized the market; on the other hand, domestic enterprises have fragmented technology routes, with hardware and software being incompatible, leading to high costs of repetitive development and low efficiency of collaboration.
M-Robots OS takes open-source Hongmeng (OpenHarmony) as its foundation, achieving efficient collaboration among multi-form robots through unified standards, and empowering robots with intelligent interaction with people and the environment. "Our goal is not to replace existing systems, but to build a new architecture for future multi-machine collaborative scenarios," emphasized Wang Chenglu.

M-Robots OS, based on open-source Hongmeng, has four differentiated capabilities: Real-time multi-machine collaboration: response time is less than 1 microsecond, meeting the needs of scenarios such as robots, drones, industrial control, and autonomous driving; Multi-hardware compatibility: supports interconnection of devices from different brands and types, achieving unified resource management; AI-native support: built-in algorithm library, supporting autonomous optimization of task strategies and human-computer interaction; Low-threshold development: provides rich APIs and toolchains, accelerating the landing of industry applications.
Currently, the system has been validated in scenarios such as industrial manipulators and collaborative robots, and it is expected to conduct commercial tests on industrial production lines jointly with partners in Guangdong Province by 2025.
Shen Kaihong announced that it will join hands with companies like Legged Robots to rely on the Guangdong OpenAtom Hongmeng Smart IoT Innovation Center, promoting system iterations in stages using the "open-source community" model: release version 2.0 by the end of 2025, and build a complete set of developer ecosystem tools (simulation, data management, interaction, etc.) within three years. Wang Chenglu called on upstream and downstream players in the industrial chain to join the "M-Robots OS Partner" program: "Through open co-creation, we hope to create a new ecosystem in the robotics field in the Pearl River Delta."
In the next three years, Shen Kaihong plans to implement 10 benchmark applications in fields such as smart manufacturing, health care, and education, and gradually expand to industries such as logistics, healthcare, and energy, promoting Guangdong to become a global hub for artificial intelligence and robotics innovation.
In May 2022, Wang Chenglu, former president of Huawei Terminal BG Software Department and head of the HarmonyOS system, left Huawei to join Shen Kaihong. He once led the development of Ark Compiler, EMUI, and HarmonyOS.
Business registration information shows that Shen Kaihong is a science and technology company with state-owned capital participation and Huawei investment. It was founded on August 26, 2021. Its shareholders include Hongju Innovation, Shenzhen Capital Operation Group Co., Ltd. (a subsidiary of Shenzhen SASAC), Hubble Technology Venture Capital Co., Ltd. (Huawei-controlled wholly-owned company), and Beijing Chinasoft International Information Technology Co., Ltd., etc. According to official introductions, Shen Kaihong is an enterprise platform focusing on OpenHarmony (open-source Hongmeng), providing basic software services for industry digitalization and intelligence.
Open-source Hongmeng originated from Huawei. In 2020 and 2021, Huawei donated all the foundational capabilities of the HarmonyOS to the Open Atom Open Source Foundation. The latter integrated contributions from other participants to form the OpenAtom OpenHarmony (referred to as "OpenHarmony") open-source project. Huawei will continue to participate in the joint construction of the OpenHarmony open-source project.
