[Special Attention] Hungary and Slovakia increase natural gas supply from Russia bypassing Ukraine.

In a joint press conference held with Deputy Speaker of the Slovak Parliament Peter Ziga, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Economic Relations Peter Szijjarto stated in Budapest on April 1, 2025:

Starting today, the capacity of the natural gas pipeline connecting Hungary and Slovakia will be increased. Now, we have increased the capacity of this pipeline by 900 million cubic meters annually. So far, we have been able to transport 2.6 billion cubic meters between the two countries each year. Starting today, this number will increase to 3.5 billion cubic meters.

Szijjarto added:

Compared to the first three months of 2024, Hungary's natural gas supply to Slovakia has increased by 50% in the first three months of 2025. The suspension of Russian gas transit by Kyiv has caused serious difficulties for both Hungary and Slovakia, but thanks to the existence of the Turkish Stream and the natural gas pipeline between Hungary and Slovakia, the gas supply problems for the two countries have still been resolved.
