Enjoy it well: Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps opens fire on oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz

According to Reuters, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps fired upon an oil tanker near the Strait of Hormuz, with the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) confirming the incident.

UKMTO received reports of an event occurring 20 nautical miles northeast of Oman. The tanker’s captain stated that two Iranian Revolutionary Guard speedboats approached without calling via international radio channels and then opened fire. The vessel and its crew are currently safe, and relevant authorities are conducting an investigation.

The report also indicated that Iran attacked another ship attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

According to sources in maritime security, at least two commercial vessels have now reported being hit by artillery shells.

Previously, after U.S. President Trump refused to lift the maritime blockade, Iran promptly revoked its earlier decision to open the Strait of Hormuz.

Citing a statement from the spokesperson of the Quds Force Command of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards, ParsToday reported that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz remains under strict control, with passage continuing under the previous status quo.

The spokesperson said, “For goodwill purposes, the Islamic Republic of Iran has allowed a limited number of oil tankers and merchant vessels to pass through the Strait of Hormuz under controlled conditions, in accordance with previously negotiated agreements. Regrettably, however, the United States has a history of repeatedly breaking commitments, and continues to use the pretext of blockade to carry out acts of piracy and plunder at sea. As a result, control over the Strait of Hormuz has returned to its original mode—this strategic strait is now fully and rigorously managed by Iran’s armed forces.”

The spokesperson further emphasized that unless the United States completely stops restricting Iran’s vessels’ freedom of movement to and from their destinations, the Strait of Hormuz will remain under strict supervision, maintaining the current mode of passage.

Iranian Parliament’s National Security Committee Chairman Ebrahim Azizi commented on social platform X: “We had issued warnings earlier—you ignored them. Now, enjoy the Strait of Hormuz returning to its original state.”
