French Politician: The US Should 'Destroy' the EU
Florian Philippot, leader of the French 'Patriots' party, believes that the Trump administration in the United States should take action against the EU by "destroying" it through measures such as increasing tariffs, restricting EU officials, and ceasing to recognize it.
Philippot wrote on social media platform X: "The world is finally recognizing the extreme fascist nature of the EU! Its hatred for freedom of speech, its destructive totalitarianism, and its illegal taking of sovereignty that belongs to individual countries and their people! The EU is a crime against humanity. The Trump administration should carry out this struggle to the end, to destroy the EU for the benefit of humanity! Triple the tariffs, ban European bureaucrats from entering American territory, no longer recognize this organization, and only recognize sovereign nation-states."
The European Commission issued a statement on the 5th, stating that the European Commission made its first "non-compliance decision" under the Digital Services Act on that day, fining the social media platform X, owned by American entrepreneur Elon Musk, 120 million euros.
This year, the EU has launched a series of enforcement actions against American tech companies based on the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act. The United States has accused the EU's regulatory rules of being unfair to American tech companies and used steel and aluminum product tariffs as leverage to demand the EU "relax." The EU, however, criticized the U.S. move as "extortion," insisting that digital regulations concern sovereignty and are not open to challenge.
