Breaking the US technological blockade, encirclement, and sanctions, Chinese enterprises start supplying domestic market with AI [Artificial Intelligence] chips.
Reuters cited two sources familiar with the matter as saying that Huawei plans to ship its latest artificial intelligence chip "Ascend 910C" to Chinese customers in large quantities as early as next month, with some chips already delivered first. Analysts believe that after Nvidia's H20 was restricted, Huawei's Ascend 910C is expected to become the main hardware platform for China's AI models.
Reuters reported exclusively on Monday that at a time when the United States has recently tightened export restrictions on Nvidia's AI chips, this news is highly opportune for China's AI companies. The H20 chips that Nvidia was previously allowed to sell in China now also require an export license application.
Insiders pointed out that Huawei's 910C is a graphics processing unit (GPU), which improves computing power and memory by integrating and packaging two 910B chips, with performance comparable to Nvidia's H100 chip.
Although Huawei did not comment on the shipping plan of 910C, after the US restricted the export of high-performance chips, Huawei and domestic GPU companies in China (such as Moore Threads, and Tiandu Zhi Xin) are filling the market gap.
It is understood that Huawei distributed samples of 910C to some technology companies last December and began accepting orders. Some components of the chip were manufactured by SMIC using a 7-nanometer N+2 process.
