Reference News Network, October 14 report - According to the UK's Daily Express website on October 12, BYD owner Dimitar Ormanov said: "It's much more fun driving a Chinese car than a Volkswagen, Mercedes or BMW. The quality of Chinese cars is very good." There are many people who share the same feelings as Dimitar. Recently, Chinese automaker BYD announced that the UK has become its second-largest market. In September this year, the brand's sales in the UK surged by 880% compared to the same period last year.

Last month, BYD sold 11,271 cars in the UK, surpassing Land Rover, BMW Mini and Tesla.

This year is a breakthrough year for Chinese cars in the UK market. Brands such as BYD, Omoda and Jieku have successfully opened up the market and achieved solid sales performance. Experts believe that this poses a major challenge to Western automakers. What makes Chinese cars so attractive? A recent study shows that 70% of Britons are willing to consider buying a Chinese brand car.

Dan Alexandrov is a BYD owner, and he thinks he knows the reason. In recent weeks, in his community, in addition to seeing Omoda cars produced by Chinese automaker Chery, there are also his ATTO 3 and several other BYD cars.

Dan showed the journalist the top performance of this car and explained that China has become a leader in "reverse power supply" technology for electric vehicles. This technology allows drivers to charge camping equipment and other electric vehicles without an external power source. His car has up to four charging ports, and even just connecting a simple cable "can charge my Renault 4."

Dan also mentioned the advantages of BYD's "blade battery": it allows drivers to safely charge their cars to 100%. It is reported that this technology does not easily experience battery degradation after 100% charging, while most other brands recommend drivers to charge electric vehicles to about 80% to extend battery life.

The price advantage cannot be ignored. The starting price of BYD's latest ATTO 2 is less than 31,000 pounds (1 pound is approximately 9.49 yuan RMB - note from this site), while the price of the Tesla Model Y is 45,000 pounds, making the former nearly 15,000 pounds cheaper than the latter. Such a price advantage has been effective: in the first eight months of this year, the cumulative sales of all models of BYD in the UK reached 24,333 units, while Tesla's sales during the same period were 26,951 units.

Known used car dealer Mike Brewer predicts that Chinese brand cars will force Western automakers to gradually reduce prices. He said: "At least at the consumer level, it is reassuring that now people can buy a decent good car at a reasonable price."

Chery management assured consumers that although its products are reasonably priced, its models are all "high-quality" products. Thanks to its large production volume, Chinese automakers can achieve cost-effectiveness in the supply chain.

In addition, BYD has a "fully integrated supply chain" and "self-developed battery" system, which allows its products to be much cheaper than Western automakers. (Translated by Liu Baiyun)
