Rise of the French Military Drone Industry

The president of the French EOS Technologie Group said that they have teamed up with car manufacturers and expect to be able to produce 10,000, 100,000, or even 1 million drones before 2030.

According to AFP, thanks to the experience gained in Ukraine and cooperation with the automotive industry, the French military drone industry is rising, to make up for its lag in this key weapon field in modern warfare.

The Rodeur drone produced by the French EOS Technologie Group has been delivered to Ukraine, with a range of 500 kilometers and a flight time of up to 5 hours.

The group's president, Jean-Marc Zuliani, explained to AFP that this drone can perform both intelligence missions and suicide attacks. In Europe, it can serve more as a "shield", while in Ukraine, it can act as a "sword".

He emphasized, "The Ukrainians have accumulated unique experience," and added that they currently "need technology more than planes."

This project was launched by the French Directorate General of Armaments (DGA) several months ago and is gradually taking shape: Renault Group announced a partnership with the defense industry Turgis Gaillard Group to jointly build the French military drone industry.

Jean-Marc Zuliani explained, "We have been asked to carry out mass production," and "automotive manufacturers can complete mass production in a shorter time."

He said that he has signed a cooperation agreement with a major car manufacturer (he did not reveal its name), "which has the capacity to produce 10,000, 100,000, or even 1 million drones before 2030," to "meet the needs of France."

The Portuguese Tek-ever Group has been providing reconnaissance and intelligence drones to Ukraine since the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine. The group has developed into a pan-European company and established an office in the city of Toulouse in southwestern France in 2024.
