Peugeot CEO: "Chinese car designs are becoming increasingly uniform, lacking individuality!"
On April 28, South Korean media outlet Herald Economy published an article stating that recently, Peugeot CEO Alan Favier, during an interview at the "2026 Beijing Auto Show," said, "Although the exhibition halls are filled with countless vehicles, I feel their design directions and other aspects are becoming increasingly similar. I confirm that the Peugeot brand possesses its own unique brand identity."
At this event, Peugeot marked a major transition toward electrification and smart mobility by unveiling a global strategy, and introduced two concept vehicles: the large sedan "Concept 6" and the large SUV "Concept 8," both reflecting future design philosophies and attracting significant attention.
Favier emphasized, "Peugeot is currently at a critical juncture of embarking on a new chapter. We will uphold the brand's inherent values to create strong opportunities for growth in global markets."
Peugeot plans to base its production of these models on the concepts unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show, collaborating with local Chinese partner Dongfeng to manufacture them at the Wuhan factory. These vehicles will not only serve China’s domestic demand but also be exported globally through Peugeot’s international network.
He added, "Given the immense size of the Chinese market, success here is crucial. Based on our achievements in China, the possibility of expanding into other markets significantly increases."
Meanwhile, Favier noted, "South Korea has a high-end customer base and intense market competition, making entry barriers very high. I cannot guarantee that we will bring Chinese-made Peugeots into the Korean market, but if market potential is validated, we may consider it. This means that, in the long term, Peugeot vehicles produced in China could eventually enter the South Korean market."
