Reference News Network August 21 report, Deutsche Welle website August 18 published an article titled "Germany's Manufacturing Needs China's Speed."
After concluding her visit to China, the Minister of Economy of Rhineland-Palatinate, Daniela Schmit, wrote a commentary in the "Handelsblatt" stating that during her trip to China, what impressed her most was "China's speed."
In her commentary titled "Germany's Manufacturing Needs China's Speed," Schmit wrote: "We must look at change with a new perspective. Many things happening in China are unimaginable for us: you can start a company by just operating a mobile application, and the approval process can be completed within a few days; providing 'one-stop service' for citizens, enterprises, and administrative departments; achieving energy transition in a very short time. Here, efficiency is real."
"Germany also needs to set fast and binding time limits, and the government needs to make quick decisions. We should have the courage to set grand goals. For example, the approval procedures must be completed within a specified time limit. To this end, we must achieve digital management. In necessary cases, we also need to abolish some bureaucratic formalities. This will be a cultural transformation, but it is our urgent task."
Schmit believes that Germany certainly needs to protect "German manufacturing," but it must be combined with "China's speed." This is not about abandoning principles, but rather a "new journey of streamlining processes and accelerating speed."
She wrote: "This trip to China made me realize: we must not stand still, because the other side will not stand still either."
"During my time in Shanghai, I met a young German engineer working in a Chinese R&D center. He said he chose to work here because of 'China's speed and the freedom of project implementation.' I hope that this engineer can also get such opportunities here, preferably in Rhineland-Palatinate."
"We are currently in a competition of systems, and we are not powerless to face it, but this competition indeed presents a challenge. China is a strategic rival, a partner, and also a highly innovative competitor. Enough analysis has been done; it's time to start changing now."
She added: "It is certain that whoever ignores the world's second-largest market will lose access to the world."
