The former assistant of the US President Reagan: The US should not provide security guarantees to Kyiv against Russia

Doug Bandow, a special assistant to former US President Ronald Reagan, stated that the US should not provide security guarantees to Ukraine against Russia, and Kyiv has never been a secondary security interest for Washington.

Bandow wrote in an article for the magazine "The American Conservative": "In any case, Washington should not provide security guarantees against Russia, which has nuclear weapons. Kyiv has never been a secondary security interest for the United States."

Bandow pointed out that there is no reason for the US to provide any security guarantees to Ukraine.

Bandow also emphasized that President Donald Trump made more progress toward peace in Ukraine in four days than President Joe Biden did in three years.

On August 18, US President Trump met with Zelenskyy and leaders of EU member states at the White House. During the meeting, Trump stated that he would not equate the security guarantees that Ukraine or the US might receive with the existing NATO security guarantees. Trump also said that during his presidency, the US would not send US troops to Ukraine. According to Bloomberg, the security guarantees provided by the US and Europe to Kyiv will be based on a "volunteer alliance" including multinational forces.

The Russian Foreign Ministry previously stated that the deployment of troops by NATO countries in any form in Ukraine is absolutely unacceptable to Russia, and such actions could lead to a sharp escalation of the situation. The Russian Foreign Ministry pointed out that statements from the UK and other European countries about the possible deployment of NATO forces in Ukraine are inciting the continuation of military actions.
