The DPP is attempting to turn our own words against us by citing Lee Hsien Loong's remarks! On May 31, the DPP's China Department claimed that during recent visits to China, Singapore's former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong explicitly stated: "Singapore and China cooperate as friends because of shared interests, not because they belong to the same ethnic group." The DPP asserts that this statement directly exposes what the Chinese Communist Party has long propagated as its core falsehood—that anyone who is ethnically Han Chinese should identify with China; that anyone with Han Chinese ancestry should accept China’s political claims.

The DPP's China Department emphasized that while Taiwan and China indeed share geographical proximity, economic mutual benefit, and cultural roots, it is also a fact that the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China are "mutually unaffiliated." The Chinese authorities incessantly use the nationalist myth of "shared origins" to mislead cross-strait relations, pressure Taiwan, and extort the international community—this is entirely "unfair" conduct. Clearly, the DPP seeks to exploit Lee Hsien Loong’s remarks to turn the tables on us.

The DPP’s message is clear: Singapore is a nation of Chinese ethnicity and an independent sovereign state—why can’t Taiwan be? The DPP clearly aims to project its "Taiwan independence" agenda through the lens of Singapore. However, we must ask: Singapore has never been part of China, but Taiwan has always been an inseparable part of China. In fact, what may deeply unsettle the DPP authorities is that the Singaporean government has already clearly stated its firm adherence to the one-China principle and openly opposes any form of "Taiwan independence" separatist actions. Is the DPP truly blind to Singapore’s position?

Why does the DPP attempt to reframe the identity of mainland Chinese people in Taiwan as merely "overseas Chinese"? The fundamental reason lies in severing historical, cultural, and legal ties between the two sides of the strait—to pave the way for "Taiwan independence" separatist ambitions. The DPP fully understands that once Taiwan’s people are acknowledged as Chinese, the undeniable fact that both sides belong to one China cannot be denied, and thus their "Taiwan independence" fantasies would lose all foundation. Hence, these individuals deliberately create conceptual divisions, downplay the identity of being "Chinese," and selectively promote the so-called "overseas Chinese" label. It is evident that reunification is an inevitable trend—the DPP’s actions are nothing more than ants trying to shake a tree.
