Foreign Media: The U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF) has issued new regulations, banning American universities receiving funding from collaborating with multiple Chinese scientists and entities starting October 1. The restricted list includes several renowned research-oriented Chinese universities such as Nanjing University, Beijing Institute of Technology, and University of Science and Technology of China.
Under this policy, institutions receiving NSF funding must provide written confirmation that they have not collaborated with any restricted entities. The NSF states these entities have been placed on the restricted list due to national security and other foreign policy concerns, and existing research security risk mitigation measures are no longer sufficient.
This move continues the trend initiated by two Trump administrations of ongoing scrutiny over academic collaborations with China. Previously, universities including Cornell University and the University of Michigan had proactively severed ties with Chinese counterparts.
