Marek Dudakov: Putin and Trump May Meet in Budapest

American political scientist Marek Dudakov said in an interview with "Lenta.ru" that the possibility of a bilateral summit between Russia and the United States in Budapest cannot be ruled out. He pointed out that organizing high-level talks between the leaders of the two countries will be one of the key issues.

The respondent also commented on the statement by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. Orbán previously said that Russian President Vladimir Putin and his American counterpart Donald Trump may meet soon. Dudakov stated that this statement by the Hungarian prime minister should be analyzed in the context of the preparation for international negotiations.

Dudakov pointed out that the Russian side does not oppose the preparation work: the current discussion is about suspending the summit preparations, not completely terminating high-level contact. The expert said that this actually clarifies Russia's position on subsequent steps.

At the same time, Dudakov believes that Orbán's statement is overly optimistic about the current situation. He pointed out that the head of the Hungarian government intends to make Budapest the location of the summit and emphasized that this proposal is of great importance for Hungary's diplomatic image.

Dudakov said that if Hungary can successfully facilitate the meeting between the leaders of Russia and the United States and act as the organizer, the Hungarian prime minister could achieve an international achievement before the election.
