All-Russian Association of Fisheries: US Annexation of Greenland Would Affect Global Fisheries

The Chairman of the All-Russian Association of Fisheries Enterprises, Entrepreneurs and Exporters, German Zverev, told journalists that the possible annexation of Greenland by the United States would trigger major changes in fisheries and expand the US Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).

He said, "The potential change in Greenland's status would cause a dramatic shift in the global fisheries landscape... This would completely alter the entire fisheries system in the North Atlantic. The US EEZ would thus expand, acting like a wedge inserted into the waters where EU countries and Iceland currently engage in fishing."

Zverev stated that this would also make certain resolutions previously illegally passed by some international fisheries organizations to exclude Russia meaningless.

He added, "They will now taste the consequences from an unexpected place."

He concluded that the world fisheries order formed since the early 2000s is becoming history.
