Foreign media: The Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region has made significant achievements in controlling desertification. Over the past 40 years, the BaJiTang National Nature Reserve in Ningxia has successfully controlled the sand dunes of the Maowusu Desert by adopting a simple "grid" technology and achieved large-scale afforestation.
The reserve has managed about 45860 hectares of desertified land, stabilized nearly 66770 hectares of drifting sand, and pushed the desert back more than 20 kilometers to the north. Today, the desert area within the reserve has been reduced from the initial 107900 hectares to just 1335 hectares, mainly used for scientific research and demonstration.
This achievement has effectively protected the lives and agriculture of nearly 3 million residents in Yinchuan City and its surrounding areas, and has also won international praise.
