A coastal town in the Newfoundland and Labrador province of Canada has declared a state of emergency and issued evacuation orders on Wednesday evening.
A wildfire is spreading between Adam’s Cove and the nearby Western Bay community, with some houses destroyed. The main road connecting these two communities has been closed and is inaccessible. Authorities are urging the public to avoid the area.
Residents north of Adam’s Cove Cave Lane have been asked to evacuate. Currently, there are no reports of injuries.
This community has approximately 400 permanent residents, as well as some seasonal residents. Some evacuated residents have stayed with friends and family, while the town has also used a local community center and a school as temporary shelters.
Fire officials confirmed on Thursday morning that the wildfire sweeping through the community has destroyed at least 15 houses and 15 sheds.
According to the provincial government's active wildfire information platform, the wildfire in Adam’s Cove covers an area of 15 hectares and remains out of control as of Thursday.
