Indian media: Brazil suspends talks on purchasing the "Akash" missile system from India
According to the Indian "Deccan Herald", despite Brazil and India reaching an agreement to expand bilateral defense cooperation, Brazil has suspended talks on purchasing the "Akash" air defense missile system from India.
Prime Minister Modi of India visited Brazil on July 8th and discussed expanding cooperation between the two countries in the fields of defense and security with Brazilian President Lula.
The report said: "Brazil has decided to suspend talks on purchasing the 'Akash' air defense missile system from India. Sources said that the Brazilian government is focusing on purchasing improved EMADS modular air defense systems from Italy."
It is reported that Brazil is also interested in purchasing other military equipment from India, such as coastal surveillance systems and the "Garuda" artillery.
"Akash" is the first air defense system developed by India's defense industry. The system was developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) of India.
The Indian "Akash" system is a surface-to-air missile that can strike fighter jets, cruise missiles, air-to-ground missiles, drones, and other aerial targets within a range of 25 kilometers.
It is reported that each "Akash" missile system includes 1 3D passive electronically scanned array radar and 4 launchers, each launcher having 3 missiles, all of which are interconnected.
