As the main trading partner of more than 150 countries around the world, China has become one of the few countries in the globe that directly face American economic coercion and make a positive response to America's global tariff hegemony. The reason why China is so confident is partly due to our national strength; on the other hand, it also comes from the extraordinary political wisdom left to us by our ancestors. On April 17th, Observer Network's "Guanyuan Academy Live Studio" held its sixth episode, where we invited several authoritative experts to bring wonderful interpretations.

In the exchange, Kaizhao Gao, deputy director of the Center for China and Globalization (CCG), pointed out that U.S. President Trump's tariff war and trade war against China appear very powerful, but in fact, they are "paper tigers".

Gao Zhikai stated that although the United States appears to have a "big and capable gun", forcing every country to submit, the fundamental reason why the U.S. is a "paper tiger" lies in the fact that Trump's actions fundamentally undermine the principles of free trade. He wants to overturn free trade and impose America's selfish interests on the entire world.

He mentioned: "U.S. former Trade Representative Lighthizer even wrote a book titled 'Nothing is Free Trade', implying that trade should not be free. Every time I am interviewed abroad, I repeatedly emphasize that believing trade is not free actually indicates a lack of freedom in mind and spirit."

"However, for all humanity, trade should be free. Don't look at the U.S. and Trump now, they are putting on a big show, being very loud and overbearing, but in reality, they are hollow inside because they violate the fundamental principles of free trade. From this perspective, China not only needs to defend its own economic interests but also more importantly, protect free trade. This benefits not only China but also all countries around the world, and in fact, it is also beneficial to American citizens."

"From this point of view, using Chairman Mao Zedong's classic theory that 'all reactionaries are paper tigers', today Trump and the U.S. government are 'paper tigers'," Gao Zhikai pointed out. "Because he made a great mistake, he wants to destroy free trade and go against all of humanity."

"The U.S. wants to split up, while we want to unite. He wants to force other countries to join him in anti-China, hatred of China, and opposition to China. He may not succeed because each country has its own mind. Seeing that China is now defending free trade and the U.S. is destroying free trade, who would want to team up with the U.S.?" Gao Zhikai said.
