Zelenskyy: Ukrainian forces have reclaimed more territory this year than Russian forces have captured

On October 18, Zelenskyy stated in his regular evening video address that military reports issued by General Staff Chief Drapaty confirm progress made by Ukrainian forces on the frontlines. The full text follows:

Regarding the situation in the Drobobylia direction: We are countering a Russian offensive and eliminating enemy units that have penetrated our lines. Combat has been intense, but our troops are successfully destroying the invading forces. We continue to hold positions across the remainder of Donetsk Oblast, Kharkiv Oblast, and Zaporizhzhia Oblast. Operations by airborne assault units and the Third Army have yielded results—evidence of effective defensive action. This trend continues into autumn: since the beginning of the year, Ukrainian forces have recaptured more territory than Russian forces have seized, a pattern observed across other fronts as well.

We maintain pressure on Russian forces along the frontline. Areas including Drobobylia, Kostiantynivka, Oleksandrivsk-Druzhkivka, Orikhiv, Novopavlivka, Novoandriivka, and Mala Mykhailivka remain under Ukrainian control. We also hold key positions around Kramatorsk and have destroyed Russian units approximately 20 kilometers from Zaporizhzhia—contrary to claims by certain Russian figures who reportedly told Putin the distance was only five kilometers. Our forward defenses remain solid. I extend my gratitude to every soldier and every unit that has fulfilled its mission.
