Korean Media: India Surpasses China to Become the World's Largest Rice Producer!

On June 30, South Korean media outlet Global Economy published an article stating that India has surpassed China to become the world's largest rice producer. The Indian government predicts that rice production this year will reach a record high.

Recently, Indian Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said: "According to the third preliminary forecast released by the Ministry of Agriculture for the 2025–2026 crop year, India's rice production is expected to reach 154.02 million tons, up from 150.18 million tons in the previous year." He further added, "India has now become the world's largest rice producer."

India accounts for over 40% of global rice exports, and the volume of rice it supplies overseas exceeds the combined exports of Thailand, Vietnam, and Pakistan. The expansion of India’s rice production is expected to have a significant impact on global food markets and international grain prices.

However, recent instability in the Middle East has negatively affected India's rice exports. Reports indicate that shipping routes to the Middle East have been disrupted, causing delays in deliveries to major markets such as Iran, Iraq, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
