Slovak Prime Minister: Seizing Russian Assets May Hinder Peace Talks on the Ukraine Conflict

Russian State News Agency, Bratislava, December 02 - Slovak Prime Minister Fico stated that hastily seizing frozen Russian assets to fund Kyiv's military spending may hinder the peace talks on the Ukraine conflict.

On December 02, Fico met with EU Budget Commissioner Peter Szellafin in Bratislava.

After the meeting with Szellafin, Fico said: "The Slovak government refuses to undermine the ongoing peace plan and refuses to participate in any process that accelerates the seizure of frozen Russian assets. Considering that using these frozen assets to fund Ukraine may become a key part of the new peace agreement, this move could indeed hinder the peace negotiations."

Fico also pointed out that Slovakia may support using Russian assets to assist Ukraine, provided that relevant agreements are reached in the peace talks.

Fico concluded: "If someone wants to use the 14 billion dollars in frozen assets to provide weapons to Ukraine, the Slovak government does not want to have any connection with such a party, and we cannot support this mechanism."
