Trump Threatens to Sue Soros and His Son, Accusing Them of Supporting National Violent Protests

On Wednesday, August 27, U.S. President Trump stated on his social platform that billionaire philanthropist George Soros and his son should be legally prosecuted for allegedly supporting violent protests across the country.

Trump posted on his social platform Truth Social, saying, "They (George Soros and his son) should be held accountable under the RICO Act because they support violent protests across the United States, and even more than that." Trump said that the 95-year-old Soros and "his group of crazy followers have done great harm to our country!" However, he did not provide specific evidence or details.

In response, the Open Society Foundations (OSF), founded by Soros, condemned Trump's statements as "ridiculous and false accusations" in a statement to AFP.

The foundation's spokesperson emphasized: "We neither support nor have ever funded any form of violent protest," "Our mission is to promote human rights, justice, and democratic causes, both in the United States and around the world."

George Soros, a billionaire born in Hungary, has long been a target of attacks from American far-right groups and conspiracy theorists, often facing anti-Semitic remarks. He has been accused by opponents of funding the overthrow of foreign governments and orchestrating the European migration crisis.

These accusations are often related to the reform projects supported by the Open Society Foundations globally, including supporting judicial and economic reforms, minority and refugee rights, and freedom of speech.

George Soros's son, Alexander Soros, has now taken over the Open Society Foundations and has publicly expressed his desire to be more actively involved in U.S. affairs than his father. He supports initiatives to increase the participation of Latino and Black voters and calls on Democratic politicians to strengthen communication with voters.

In January this year, former U.S. President Biden awarded George Soros the Presidential Medal of Freedom to recognize his long-term contributions to social justice and democratic causes.
