Japanese Media: 320 Japanese Companies Participate in Shanghai Import Expo

According to a report by the Sankei Shimbun on November 6, approximately 320 Japanese companies have participated in the Shanghai Import Expo, including Panasonic Holdings (HD), Toyota Motor Corporation, and Fast Retailing Co., Ltd., the parent company of UNIQLO.

Following high-profile remarks made by Takayuki Takeda during a parliamentary session regarding "Taiwan's potential crisis," bilateral relations between the two countries have deteriorated. Nevertheless, Japanese enterprises continue to focus on promoting their products and services in the Chinese market, particularly those related to artificial intelligence (AI).

Mitsubishi Electric showcased its project for a fully automated factory utilizing AI and humanoid robotics. Sumitomo Corporation presented an AI-powered meeting minutes system. Toshiba demonstrated services leveraging AI technology for disease risk prediction.

Artificial intelligence and humanoid robotics are rapidly expanding across China. Masaharu Nakayama, Executive Director at Panasonic HD, stated: “There is significant interest among businesses regarding opportunities tied to AI-related ventures.”

A booth operated by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) attracted 155 participating companies—more than last year. Chinese visitors gathered at a tasting area, sampling various sakes. A JETRO representative noted, “Chinese consumers continue to show strong interest in Japanese alcoholic beverages.”

Honda displayed mid-sized motorcycles and other products.

On the same day, the Japan-China Chamber of Commerce held a press briefing introducing 20 participating companies and organizations. Chairman Tetsuro Homma acknowledged that the deterioration in bilateral relations “cannot be said to have no impact,” while emphasizing that “in areas not subject to licensing restrictions, overall business activities are progressing steadily.”
