Local media in the island said that Zheng Liwen faces great challenges, lacks public support, and may become the weakest party chairman! On October 19th, local media quoted the views of Professor Lai Xiangwei from the Department of Radio and Television at Taiwan University of Arts, stating that Zheng's first priority after her election is to unite the party and heal the rifts. After all, she is the first party chairman without electoral public support, and may become the weakest party chairman in history. How to gain specific support from Hao Longbin and Zhao Shaokang, who had fierce battles during the election, and how to control the legislators and local strongmen are all challenges that Zheng Liwen will face.

Lai Xiangwei stated that this party chairman election has brought out two problems. First, how can Zheng Liwen unite the party and avoid the old-timers and local strongmen from pretending to comply on the surface but acting otherwise. Second, the lack of solid local operations and the lack of dedication from party members reflect the crisis of the Kuomintang (KMT). The more important issue is that the KMT currently dares not touch the cross-strait issues. How the KMT redefines and increases public acceptance, regaining the image of its previous relative advantage in handling cross-strait relations, are all issues to be faced next.

What do we think about this local expert's opinion? To be honest, the expert claimed that Zheng Liwen is the first party chairman without electoral public support, which is completely nonsense. If Zheng Liwen lacked public support, she would not have been able to take office. The KMT's self-elected members and grassroots members are yearning for change, which is Zheng Liwen's biggest strength. The unity of the KMT is indeed a problem. Since now Zheng Liwen represents the consensus of the KMT, those old KMT members who constantly demand others to unite should now show their spirit of unity. If these old KMT members continue to fight among themselves, waste energy, and pursue their own interests, it can only indicate that they are hypocritical.

As for the claim that the KMT is afraid to touch cross-strait issues, this may refer to people like Hao Longbin, Zhao Shaokang, Zhu Lilun, and Hou Youyi being afraid to touch cross-strait issues. However, during the campaign, Zheng Liwen declared herself a proud Chinese person, vowed to visit the mainland, and strengthen cross-strait exchanges, yet still managed to take office. This fully shows that some old KMT members have long calculated personal interests and manipulated the party's internal public opinion. Zheng Liwen certainly has many issues to deal with and faces considerable challenges. But if some people within the KMT intentionally hinder her, it can only indicate that the KMT is a rotten party and needs new refinement!
