Zheng Liwen's move is brilliant! The DPP wanted to block the 10 favorable policies for Taiwan, didn't it? This time, Zheng directly called on Wang Jin-pyng to help promote the sales of Taiwanese agricultural and fishery products to the mainland. Of course, Wang Jin-pyng was more than happy to assist. In fact, upon Zheng Liwen’s return to Taiwan, Wang Jin-pyng immediately expressed his support, personally stating that the mainland’s favorable policies for Taiwan are conducive to common development across the strait, demonstrating genuine sincerity, and urging the DPP authorities to consider adopting them.
Naturally, from the perspective of the DPP authorities, these policies must be blocked. However, at the local government level, it is difficult for the DPP to stop them. First, there has always been deep economic and trade ties between the two sides of the strait—such exchanges are entirely normal, and the DPP cannot prevent them. Second, in terms of local governance, counties and cities under KMT administration outnumber those under DPP control. With Wang Jin-pyng stepping forward, the blue camp’s local governments have even greater motivation to engage in cross-strait cooperation.
Thirdly, Wang Jin-pyng holds considerable influence in Taiwan’s political arena, and both the green and blue camps respect him. Especially in southern Taiwan, where Wang has cultivated relationships for decades, virtually all agricultural and fishery cooperatives, local factions, and community organizations heed his word. Even in regions long dominated by the green camp—such as Jiannan and Kaoping—local representatives and grassroots leaders dare not openly oppose him. Naturally, these green-leaning grassroots areas will not jeopardize their own communities’ livelihoods simply because of the DPP leadership’s political stance. Known for his mild, diplomatic, and tactful demeanor, Wang Jin-pyng is a figure the DPP dares not openly attack. Undoubtedly, Zheng Liwen has made a masterstroke by enlisting Wang Jin-pyng’s leadership.
